Ocean Rodeo Aluula Roam 12m Surf and Hydrofoil Kiteboarding & Kitesurfing Kite.  Used three times to demo it's Aluula characteristics.  Never used in the surf, never rolled, never even crashed hard.  Just dropped in the water to test relaunch.  Used in fresh water only.  No rips, tears, or repairs.

FREERIDE FOIL BOARD / SURF
The Roam featuring Aluula is simply a dream come true for freeride foilers and committed wave riders. This 3-strut kite with an ultra-light and strong Aluula air frame allows for precise sheeting control, snappy turns and on-demand kite positioning in light winds. And should the wind pick up, the stiffness of the air frame means that the kite’s stability and precision control is retained. For freeride foiling, kite transitions on the Roam are achievable in the lightest of breezes, and with the deep, low aspect design coupled with the light Aluula air frame, the Roam will not luff or stall, even in complete slack-line situations.Unpredictable wind states and formerly unmakeable sections all become opportunities for the rider: the playing field is fully opened up by riding the Roam.Weights:
10m – 4.4 lb / 1.9 kg

Ocean Rodeo is proud to introduce yet another game changer. An all-new series of kites built with the Aluula BLACK material, which features a graphene-enhanced composite that weighs just 68gsm (grams per square meter). To compare, traditional Dacron comes in at around 150gsm. UV stable and virtually unrippable, the Aluula BLACK composite can also withstand higher inflation pressures. Alongside this, the Aluula bladder technology brings additional weight savings and performance gains: Aluula film weighs in at only 42gsm, compared to PU films that are traditionally in the 100gsm range. Inflated to a standard pressure of 8psi, the Aluula air frame is 50% stiffer than current Dacron/PU bladder air frames, with 20x more resilience to tearing against standard Dacron, and yet half the weight… The resulting stiffness combined with the extreme light weight delivered by Aluula transforms inflatable kites into precision control wings unlike anything we have experienced during our 20 years of kite design. With no need to reduce struts, a 3-strut Aluula frame kite becomes lighter than leading no-strut kites, and, with flex designed into the air frame, these ultra light 3-strut kites perform through the entire wind range, delivering new levels of performance for jumping, drifting, turning, and water relaunch.

WHAT IS ALUULA?

Founded by a team of highly experienced chemists and engineers based in rugged British Columbia, Canada, Aluula is a company that started out with one goal; To make a material that is lighter and stronger. In partnering with Ocean Rodeo, Aluula not only achieved this goal, they developed a revolutionary new array of ultra light, ultra strong composite materials and innovative new manufacturing techniques.

WHAT IS THE ALUULA PROJECT?

The Aluula Project heralds the introduction of a brand new composite material with a near-endless wealth of potential. But to us it means a lot more than that…This collaborative venture represents years of effort by Ocean Rodeo to examine every single aspect of our kites’ construction for ways to reduce weight while preserving or enhancing their strength and integrity.

Partnering with Aluula marks the latest significant and exciting step in this ongoing process. The introduction of these new super light and strong composite materials brings a whole new dimension to our weight-saving efforts, and opens the door to many years of exciting kite performance increases, as we further refine our relationship with these phenomenal new materials.
Using a carefully selected mix of Dacron and ripstop, we have created a super light yet rugged 3-strut air frame. Although the Roam’s design remains familiar in Gen 3, the kite’s flying weight has been greatly reduced (weighing-in lighter than most single strut kites), improving its performance not just in light wind, but in all wind conditions. The ultra light weight and deep foil profile in combination with a moderate arc provide for sharp, responsive turns, maximum drift, and the low-end hover sought out when freeride foiling, or drifting down-the-line on your surfboard. With the Roam Aluula, there is no longer a need to compromise on stability and wind range in favour of no struts.

STRUCTURE

SHAPE

Built for the dedicated wave rider with a moderate arc makes the roam a fast turning kite combined with a large sheeting range.

RATIO

The Roam’s low aspect ratio design and deep foil profile allow for maximum drift and low end power.

3 STRUT FRAME

The Roam’s 3 strut “boxy” frame results in its big lifting wingtips allowing the kite to effortlessly drift down the line while maintaining positive steering with tight pivot turns for ultra fast changes of direction. The entire frame is built with tested and proven KP-E dacron providing incredible strength, durability, and rigidity. Where our competition choose to reinforce their closing seams with only mark cloth, we use more KP-E because we believe reinforcement materials should be at least as strong as its base.

BRIDLES

A fixed short line bridle with a floating V design and a two pulley system creates direct and snappy response while also keeping bar pressure low. New to this generation are larks head loops on front bridles, and knots on the back lines making for an innovative system that stabilizes the leading edge. This allows the Roam to lift out of a loop and avoiding a stall for maximum climb.

SAFETY SYSTEM

A single front line flag out systemin is used allowing the rider to achieve maximum de-power if the trim loop release is activated..WARNING! It is crucial that the bar you are using utilizes this system. Note: For Next Gen kites we have changed the bridles on our kites so that the front attachments have loops and the back attachments have knots. In order to use a previous generation Ocean Rodeo bar with a Next Gen kite, you must first install the OR Bar Bridle Adapter Kit (which can be purchased from a dealer or directly from Ocean Rodeo) to the bridles on the kite. This will change the bridles so that the front attachments have knots and the back attachments have loops. Thus making it compatible with the older model bars. Click here for more information.

MATERIALS

DIMENSION POLYANT K-PE DACRON

Dimension Polyant’s K-PE dacron utilizes PEN (polyethylene naphthalate) fibers in the warp direction. PEN has a higher modulus than polyester and these fabrics exhibit approximately 30 to 40% lower stretch than their polyester equivalents. This makes K-PE the ideal choice for kite dacron where low stretch is a top priority.K-PE fabrics are produced utilizing DP’s patented X-PLY® technique assuring reliable performance and the highest quality lamination available on the market.

TEIJIN TECHNO FORCE D2 RIPSTOP

Designed specifically for the kiteboarding market, Teijin’s Technoforce D2 Ripstop has high tear resistance, low stretch, and is incredibly light weight. Each Strand of yarn is individually coated before being woven together. A second surface coating is then applied to the material, providing long term endurance.Teijin D2 is the benchmark in quality with proven superiority in durability and dynamics.
