Looking like a north coming through tomorrow, trying get out after work for the first time in a long time tommorow. If the forcast holds as predicted, where would you suggest a kook gets out? SSYC or sheboygan? Seems like deciding between straight onshore vs straight side shore right now. Open to any and all tips/suggestions.
Hey Mitchell. Cavan here, just moved to MKE about a year ago. I'm new to this forum and new to kiting in MKE/Lake Michigan in general, though I've got about 9-10 years experience kiting off and on. I'd gladly take any tips from anyone else here since I was also eyeing up SSYC and Grant Park area for tomorrow morning/afternoon around 8-10am since I'm off work. Depending on the wind, I'll be out on a neon green Naish 14m. I can try to update this thread with the conditions/what my final plan is in the morning.
Cavan, welcome! Mitch, in general going to a location more south when the wind is out of the north works best. There are exceptions of course, and the south shore bluff kills some wind near the shore. Grant Park can be good and Racine beach too. Both will be wavy. The one thing Sheboygan has on a north is that the waves often clean up right behind the jetty, so some good kite surfing can be had.

I like the flat water inside the break at SSYC on a NE.
-planning to head there tomorrow too
I cannot get out until after 2:00, SSYC or Grant if enough E in the mix.
Also, welcome Cavan. I believe Cavan's proximity to SSYC may come in handy sometimes for update on conditions... ;)
Thanks for the info everyone.
Unfortuntaly won't be able to get out until 4pm so hope it's still on. Planning on checking grant first as that's the closest and then ssyc if I don't get out at grant.
Look forward to anyone's updates during the day tomorrow.
Stopped by South Shore on my way to work. It's definitely lighter at shore, but lots of wind out by the wall. I will hopefully be back after work this afternoon.
I'm heading down shortly.
Got a late start, just arrived to Grant Park. Winds are good, side shore out of the north, but gusty at moments. If folks end up at SSYC, hit me! (920) 334-0350
Looks like 3 kites are out at ssyc currently. Probably going to head straight there after work at 4pm and hope the wind is still on.
Don't see any kiters at SSYC but see some vehicles parked. Wind looks solid. Starting on an 8m. Probably could go 10 as well. If I don't post back up y'all know why 😜
Unfortunately my window of opportunity to get on the water is going to be too narrow to spend part of it driving downtown and then back. Going out in my back yard instead but wish I was on the bumps in the big pond. Wind here 18-28 NE right now, so good enough. Hope all score well today!
@PowerManJ316 Thanks! I'll plan on bringing my 9m to start, appreciate the insight!
Just finished up at Grant Park area. Wind was great, but gusty! Was out on an 8m and it was perfect. Ran into a few guys named Ryan, Joe, and Dallas.... all 3 kiters started out at SSYC and did a downwinder and met me at Grant Park. Definitely gonna try my luck at the calmer waters near SSYC next time!
Inland wind up and down, mostly down. Sorry I missed the downwinder! Given the conditions, surprised Dalius didn't wingfoil that trip...
That was a solid session, 14m felt great. A little gusty and chilly but great to be out.
Thank you Jeff for the pump loan!
Very fun day. 8m was good. Good to see several others out. Colder than the last few at Muskego.
Thx for the advice Jeff as the wind dropped a little, my 11m was perfect. Great to see so many people out over the afternoon.
Huge thanks to Stafford for letting me try his 9m Vortex, it was super agile and able to have fun when the other guys were still on 12m.
Thanks to Steve, Noah, Jake, and Stafford for helping out a kook out there. I got dragged around pretty good my first round out but had a blast mowing the lawn and was able to keep it up wind and out of the rocks my second round out there. Thanks again guys you rock.
