Jan 12 ice.

  • Winged in back yard 20 miles today on skiskates.  Have been using ice skates in shorter sessions so far this winter due to some open water near south end of my island, but the skiskates are the best call now with some rougher ice, cracks, ice fishing holes, etc...  Was going to use skiskates with a kite, but my old legs have yet to adjust to winter and thighs burning...  The cold air over next several days going to strengthen weak areas - but KNOW YOUR ICE!!

  • Pewaukee ice continues to be smooth. Skated on it 4+ hours with kids Saturday. Heading out there this week too. Watch for heaves with all this wind.

  • In an effort to try something different on bumpy ice I ran a bunch of screws through the tires of a mountain board and gave it a go on Muskego this morning.... It was comical at best and will need some modification and practice to see if it will really work.

where is a good place to launch on pewaukee lake?  Might try there tomorrow

  • Got 10 miles in my back yard today with wing.  First few miles with skiskates, but ice much harder with colder air today and edges didn't bite as well.  Switched to ice skates for rest of session and just focused on finding smooth (yet safe) ice.  Nice day, and rest of week showing some promise.  When the snow finally arrives the ice should be safe and ready!

BTW: Charlie Dalin should finish Vendee Globe round-the-world race overnight, smashing record by some 10 days.  Foiling continues its technological and approach advancements to the benefit of all of us foilers!

  • Jake, Smokies fish shop. Public parking right in front. I tried skiis and skates today and wing plus skates was by far the best time. A 3m wing and ice skates is a really fun combo. No setup time at all and good power and fun.

  • Conditions on ice still great, wind has been cooperating!  Get it while you can, it has been nice to get long sessions every day.
