Tiz da season…

  • Doesn't look good to get out in the big pond for a while, temps below freezing for forseeable future and prevailing west winds....  Took equipment out of truck and transitioning to winter in back yard.

HOWEVER, fortunately dispite winds my back yard is freezing, 3-4 inches on north end and enough room to get out and play with wing on skates regardless of wind direction.  Truely a fun way to work on freestyle including 360's, back-winding and tuning tacks or fancy wing transition gybes.  Just saying - nice to have options!

Having said that - KNOW YOUR ICE!  Haven't gone through yet this year and not even using drysuit as lake drawdown was signifigant this year and water very shallow.  However, never leave home without ice-piks!  It would be nice if wind would settle down a bit so rest of lake would freeze over and maybe get some snow for my kites!

  • I like the sounds in this one myself.  All my obsessions in one video...

  • Another favorite, caused me to start winging more than a decade ago...

  • @Jeff Vkoeberl wow- some surprisingly soft landings for skates/wing on ice

  • Two of the guys in the video have attended and competed WISSA (World Ice & Snow Sailing Association) world championships when held in Fond du Lac in 2019 and a few years before.  I helped run the events and talked with them, and though yes they have great skill, one was recovering even then from shattered knee and broken hip.  Kevin, Don, Dan and others from WAK (Winnebago Area Kiters) who used to run their events during Sturgeon Stampede are (like Stafford) paying dues still from big jumps on ice and water.  But yes, it can sure be smooth MOST of the time when you get past the learning curve.
